Alyssa Madeleine

Alyssa Madeleine

Welcome to my daydream, where makeup is free, ice cream has no calories and my anxiety is non-existent. My name is Alyssa, I’m a 28-year-old, small town girl who was born and raised in the outskirts of Ottawa, Canada. Why did my parents choose to raise me where snow and ice pellets attack us for 4-6 months of the year? Well, they also gave me a brother instead of a sister, so their decisions aren’t always logical.

I guess now would be a good time to tell those of you who don't know me, I’m sarcastic to my core, so…I meant everything I just said.

I’m a lover of makeup, gummy worms, puppies and photography. I started writing in 2014 on another platform, about a year after I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Throughout the first year of what I like to refer to as my “hurricane”, I searched for blogs on mental illness that would hopefully help me. The majority of what I found were people writing about the negatives. I had never felt so hopeless in my life.

My aim in creating this blog is to help people, both those with and without mental illnesses, understand that though having a mental illness is a life-sentence, it can be to the place you daydream about instead of a prison. I take a lighter, yet still serious approach to mental health issues and misconceptions, as well as my own journey.

As for the rest of my site, I write for fellow beauty lovers who love to spend every last dime expanding their makeup and skincare collection. Girls who wear makeup for their damn selves and for no other reason.

Frequently Asked Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT DO YOU USE TO EDIT YOUR PHOTO'S?

I use a combination of adobe lightroom (desktop & iPhone depending on the day) and tweak them on snapseed. I created my own presets through lightroom that make it 10x easier to edit multiple photo's in a short period of time.

WHAT IS YOUR JOB?

I am currently working as the Digital Marketing and Social Media PR coordinator for Expedia CruiseShipCenters in Ottawa.

DID YOU GO TO SCHOOL FOR MARKETING AND DESIGN?

I actually have a degree in Psychology. I wanted to be a therapist for the longest time. However, I've always had a passion for photography and design. I'm also very introverted and don't like too much social interaction, this job allows me to sit and work without having to socialize very much with coworkers, even though my coworkers and bosses are awesome. I will, however, be going back to school to get a Business Degree in Marketing so I can learn the theoretical side of Marketing.

DO YOU FIND PEOPLE LOOK AT YOU DIFFERENTLY ONCE THEY LEARN ABOUT YOUR MENTAL ILLNESSES?

Yes and no. Some people accept it without hesitation and some people don't, it all comes down to how educated they are on mental illness. Most of the issues come from boyfriends, especially if you are the first person they've dated with a mental illness. There will be a post on this in the future.
